Snow Trip — First Fun of 2012

Another Snow Trip has come and gone. Some of us are saddened by its passing, Pastor Sabin is glad its over—he can sleep for more than 5 hours a night again.

We had a great time again this year. We took 10 young people to Snow Trip, a record for recent history, and other than a few traffic diversions were able to arrive Friday Night in good time.

The camp took great care of us providing wonderful food and activities. As always the weekend was full of memories including barefoot walks to the bathroom. (None of the girls attempted this). For the guys one of the highlights was “shorts-only” snow angels. (this is exactly what it sounds like).

I am also glad that we were fed spiritually and that all those that went had something concrete that they learned. Yes, another Snow Trip has passed, but its effect on us will be felt for weeks to come!

What do you believe?

This is a series of questions I want to ask in our newsletter in order to facilitate a discussion on Wednesday nights in 2012. If you would like to answer this question, please message me on Face-book with your answer?

This month's questions: Why do you believe that the Bible is true?

Random Facts

God bless the English language

  • We park on a drive-way and drive on a park-way.

  • You can can-can on a can actually makes sense.

  • The longest one-syllable word in the English language is “Screeched”.
A Brief Devotional

“But thanks be to God that though you were slaves of sin, you became obedient from the heart to that form of teaching to which you were committed, and having been freed from sin, you became slaves of righteousness.”

Romans 6:17-18 NASB

We like freedom. We like not being bound by restrictions or by others telling us what to do. We like freedom. Unfortunately, many of us do not have a good definition of freedom especially

as Christians. We think that once we have received Christ we are then free, and indeed the Bible tells us that we are, but this is not a freedom to do whatever we want. This is a freedom to do what is right. A freedom to do what God desires of us, a freedom to accomplish that which we could not accomplish before, but it is not a freedom to do whatever we want.

This kind of freedom would recognize self as the master, and self is never the master in the Scriptures. Instead, after being freed to do the will of God we become slaves to righteousness.

We becomes slaves of God— bound to do what he asks of us because of the freedom he bought for us.

We are his slaves by choice, out of love, and for His glory, but we are His slaves - and we must never forget that fact.
Quotable Quotes

“But emotion built on emotion is empty. True emotion—emotion that is reliable
and doesn’t lead us astray—is always a response to reality, to truth. It’s only as we
study and consider truth about Jesus with our minds that our hearts will be
moved by the depth of his greatness and love for us. When we engage our
minds with the doctrine of his person and work, our emotions are given
something to stand on, a reason to worship and revel in the very appropriate
feelings of awe and gratefulness and adoration.”
