NEWS FROM YOUTH ROOM (news letter)

FUN DAY WITH BAPTIST BIBLE CHURCH

On November 7, five teens helped Baptist Bible Church do a Fun Day. We were blessed to have contacts with 21 kids from the area, and had a great time playing games and having dinner with all who came out. I want to thank Heather, Sloane, and in particular T.J., Alex and Austin for all of their help setting up and running this event. I could not have done it without their help.

I look forward to continuing our relationship with Baptist Bible and with helping them out in the spring with an activity designed to encourage kids to come to their VBS next summer. I want to commend the teens for their willing spirits and desire to jump in and help. And to all those who were not there and were doing yard work, be prepared to sing Christmas Carols at our Christmas Party!

Fun Day a Success!

UPCOMING EVENTS:

• December 16—Christmas Party!
• January 10 SNAC at Rasche’s
• Jan 15—18 = SNOW Trip!!
• Feb. 7—Super Bowl Party

LOOKING AHEAD TO THE CHRISTMAS PARTY

Wednesday, December 16 will be a special day for all youth! On this day we will together celebrate Christmas with the annual Christmas party! Come this year with the expectation for good food, good fun, and good fellowship. We will have a light dinner and snacks (you may bring your favorite to share) and we will have a white elephant gift exchange. (No money spent please). Simply bring yourself and a wrapped piece of junk to give to someone else! We will start at 6 PM instead of 7!

A BRIEF DEVOTIONAL

Blessed is the man who perseveres under trial because when he has stood the test, he will receive the crown of life that God has promised to those who love him.” James 1:12

During Thanksgiving time, we are all reminded of our need to give thanks. For some this is easier than it is for others. For me, at this point in my life, things are really pretty good. But what about when things get hard? What do we do when times are tough—is it possible to truly give thanks in all circumstances? I believe that this verse is giving us a key to unlocking the joy of being content in all things—perseverance.

No matter what we face in this life, if we can endure, we know that things will be better at a future point in time. That time may not come in this life. We may not ever earn a better living, we may not see our loved one recover from illness. In fact, this side of glory, we are likely to see things get worse before they get better. But this side of glory is not all that we should see. We will one day see Jesus face to face and in that time we will receive our crowns, and our perseverance will lead us to a crown of life. I believe this crown to be synonymous with the life that we will receive—we get to live forever happy and content in the presence of Jesus Christ. That is the greatest joy we could have, but we must endure these temporary sufferings, and give thanks.

RANDOM FACTS

• Here's one of those funny Thanksgiving facts: Turkeys have heart attacks. When the Air Force was conducting test runs and breaking the sound barrier, fields of turkeys would drop dead.
• 91% of Americans eat turkey on Thanksgiving Day.
• Thomas Jefferson thought the concept of Thanksgiving was "the most ridiculous idea I’ve ever heard."

Which side of the turkey has the juiciest meat?
