A Word From Our Assistant Pastor

 

Hebrews is a great book to read when you need a reminder of what God has done for you. It begins with the fact that we have the best possible revelation that we could have because of the person of Jesus Christ. It continues by telling us all of the reasons that Jesus Christ is indeed better. Of most interest to me is that which is described in 4:14- 10:18 – the fact that Jesus Christ is the Great High Priest, better than all others, because the work that he accomplishes is better.

Among the things that the work of Christ accomplishes, this passage outlines that because of this Great High Priest, we can do the following:

1. We can hold firmly to our faith (4:14) - in a day when there are all sorts of ideas out there, it can be tempting to let our faith slide a little bit, but we can hold firmly to the truth, because the work of Christ is sure.

2. We have hope (6:18 ff.) – in dark times, hope always helps – it gives us the courage to face the day.

3. We have a mediator (9:15) – someone to go to God on our behalf, and who better than the only begotten son?

4. We have forgiveness and salvation (10:18) – we can be in relationship with God.

We have access to the very throne of God now because of the work of Christ. Think of it. These are only a few of the blessings that we have because of the work of Christ.

No wonder Paul says in Ephesians 1:3, “Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ who has blessed us in the heavenly realms with ever spiritual blessing in Christ.”
